SIH’s Think On These Things: 1 Cor 15:45-47

1Cor 15:45-47  (45)  And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.  (46)  Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.  (47)  The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

The first Adam, the first created human being, was a creation of God that possessed both human, physical life and an immortal soul.  As such, this Adam possessed the ability to change, to commit sin, and to fall from his blessed position of communion with God.

The last Adam is referring to Christ.  Why is Christ called the “last Adam”?

  1. Just as Adam was unique, being the first human ever created… so too, Christ.  He is      truly the “God-Man”.  He is God Himself come to earth as a man.

  2. Also, what Adam lost in the fall, Christ came to regain for mankind.  Through the      death of Christ, we can regain communion with God, spiritual life, and a perfect environment in which to live.

Here we are told that:

  1. Christ (the last Adam) was made a “quickening spirit”.   Adam could only possess      life.  Christ can give life.

  2. Adam was set apart from animals by his “soul”.  Christ was set apart from man being the spirit of the living God.

  3. Adam’s body was formed from the earth, and as such, finds his origins in the earth.       Christ, as God, finds His origins in heaven.

What a wonderful, special Lord we serve!

May the Lord bless each one of us as we “Think On These Things”.
