“SIH’s Think On These Things: Proverbs 23:23-25”

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

Sources Of Ruin For Our Lives: Devaluing The Truth: Proverbs 23:23-25
23) Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24) The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise [child] shall have joy of him.
25) Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

Solomon now shares with us teachings on many different sins that can ruin our lives…

EXPOSITION:
Solomon continues to address sins that can ruin a Christian’s life.  He now looks at devaluing the truth…

23) Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
1.  We are to be willing to give of ourselves to gather up that which is reliable (the truths of the Word) and not give it up for anything.
2.  Along with the reliable Word of God, we should be willing to sacrifice of ourselves for:
a.  the application of the Word to our life,
b.  the teachings that proceed from and explain the Word,
c.  the teachings that proceed from the Word that help us to discern the true nature of this world and the world to come.

Folks, every aspect of the Word and the many lessons that proceed from the Word are reliable, practical, instructive and insightful.  We are to give our all to acquire these things.

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.  Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ,   (Philippians 3:7-8)

24) The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise [child] shall have joy of him.  25) Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
Keeping in mind, that Godly parents will greatly desire to see their children live for the Lord…
1. The father of those whose lifestyle is aligned with God’s desires will jump for joy exceedingly.
2. A child who consistently applies the Word to their life will be a source of gladness to their parent.
3. Both the father and mother shall share in gladness
4. The mother of the Godly child will also find themselves “jumping for joy” knowing their child is spiritually secure and faithfully serving the Lord.

Not only does the application of the Word to our life bring joy to us, but also to those who love and hold a spiritual concern for us.

Of course, in most cases, Godly parents hold the greatest concern for our spiritual wellbeing.  By “parents” we are speaking of those who have given us physical life and our “spiritual parents”, those who have led us to Christ and have been our spiritual mentors.

Yet for love's sake I rather beseech [thee], being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.   I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:   (Philemon 1:9-10)
Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,  I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;  And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:  (1 Kings 2:1-3)

SUMMARY:

Are we counting the Word of God as a valuable asset worth the investment of our lives?  By investing our very life in learning and applying the Word, we will be bringing great joy to ourselves and those who love and care for our spiritual well-being.

Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.  Therefore I esteem all [thy] precepts [concerning] all [things to be] right; [and] I hate every false way.   (Psalms 119:127-128)

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.

May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.
