Wise Attitudes: Desire Godly Instruction:
Proverbs 13:1
1) A wise son [heareth] his father's
instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
EXPOSITION:
1) A wise son [heareth] his father's
instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
1.
A son who applies his Heavenly Father’s Word to his life, realizes the
importance of the counsel of those with greater experience. He takes seriously the words of those who are
led of God and motivated by a heart of love and desire to help him along life’s
way. He will willingly listen, consider
and apply the advice that he has been given.
2. A person who mocks at the counsel of the wise
does not consider their message of correction.
In doing so, he stubbornly persists in his sinful lifestyle.
One
of the most outstanding characteristics of those who are wise is their
willingness to accept Godly correction for their lives. After all, by listening to His divine
correction we have nothing to lose and everything to gain…
“I know, O LORD, that thy judgments [are]
right, and [that] thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.” (Psalms 119:75)
“Behold, happy [is] the man
whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and
bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.” (Job 5:17-18)
“I know, O LORD, that thy

merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant. Let thy tender mercies
come unto me, that I may live: for thy law [is] my delight.” (Psalms 119:75-77)
“Ye have not yet resisted unto blood,
striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the
exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou
the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth
he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening,
God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not? But if ye be without
chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had
fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall
we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few
days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we]
might be partakers of his holiness.” (Hebrews 12:4-10)
SUMMARY:
Attitudes
that flow from a wise lifestyle includes a desire to receive the Lord’s corrective
instruction. He sends us this
instruction from a variety of sources, including those who are motivated by a
heart of love and a desire to help us become better servants for Him. May we all be open to the Lord’s workings in
our life as He works to help us to grows in grace and become closer to
Him. May we not quickly reject the counsel of
others because, it can be the Lord speaking to us through the use of one of His
children.
By
God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value
that they deserve.
May the
Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.
