“SIH’s Think On These Things: Proverbs 19:27-29”

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

God’s Word Affects: Our Spiritual Warfare (1): Proverbs 19:27-29
27) Cease, my son, to hear the instruction [that causeth] to err from the words of knowledge.
28) An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29) Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

In this second part of this text (vs 24-29), the Lord continues to help us to understand attitudes and actions that are necessary for success in spiritual warfare…

EXPOSITION:

27) Cease, my son, to hear the instruction [that causeth] to err from the words of knowledge.
28) An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
Reject False Teaching
1.  vs 27 - We are to drop, and walk away from, teaching that leads us to stray from the teachings of the Lord.
Why are we to do this?
2.  vs 28 - Because those who profess error will also make a mockery of the judgment of God.
3.  vs 28 – Because the wicked teacher relishes and is empowered by causing other to follow them and share in their sin.

We are to recognize, and then reject, the false teachings that abound in this sinful world.  By rejecting these false teachings we are affirming our recognition of the coming judgment of the Lord and the possession of a sincere desire to help lead others away from sin to service to Christ.

“If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.   (1 Timothy 6:3-5)

29) Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Remember We Reap What We Sow
Those who ridicule, or ignore and deny, the Lord and His Word will face the hand of God in judgment.

This should be the great motivation in our service to the Lord… we know that the lost around us will face the eternal judgment of God, likewise those who are saved but not taking the Word as seriously as they should will be facing the chastening hand of the Lord.
In both cases, we find motivation to encourage the salvation of the lost and faithful service by those who are saved.

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.  (2 Peter 3:3-7)

SUMMARY:
As we seek to serve our Lord lets always remember to forsake false teaching that may come our way and remember the importance of our two-fold calling as Christians.
1.  We are called to share the truths of God with those who are lost, giving them the hope of escape from eternal punishment and salvation  from their sins.
2.  Likewise we are called to encourage and strengthen the saved through God’s Word helping them to more faithfully serve our Lord.

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.

May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.
