SIH’s Think On These Things:The Miracles of Christ - John 20:30-31

John 20:30-31 - 30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

In this new series for our daily devotions we will be looking at some of the miracles that Christ performed during His earthly ministry at His first coming to the earth. What is the purpose of this series? I think that John 20:30-31 sums it up for us, the miracles of Christ were signs. In other words, they were an indication of who Christ really was.

The three major lessons we can learn through the miracles of Christ:

“that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ…” - the term “Christ” is describing Jesus as “the Anointed One” of God. In other words, we will be seeing proof that Jesus is the One that was chosen by the Father to be anointed with His Spirit enabling Him to become our Prophet, Priest and King. (Mark 1:9-11)

“that ye might believe that Jesus is… the Son of God” – the phrase “Son Of God” teaches us that Christ came forth directly from God the Father. This helps us to understand that Christ is God appearing in human flesh. (1 Tim 3:16)

“that believing ye might have life through His name” – We then can recognize He is the only One through which we can find eternal life. This takes place when we come to an understanding that Christ is God Himself, and the True Prophet, Priest and King over all. (John 14:5-7)

In other words, to summarize, my prayer is that this series will help us to understand the greatness of Christ and our great need of Him. By doing so, I’m hoping we will gain a greater appreciation for all that our Lord has done for us, learn to be patient servants, and glorify and honor Him with our lives. If we have never received forgiveness for our sins, I trust we will see our need to come to Him in submission and faith…

1Tim 1:15-17 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, [be] honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

(Just a side note…. Our study will not include all of the miracles that Christ performed on earth because many of His miracles were not recorded in the Scriptures. (John 20:30))

May the Lord bless each one of us as we “Think On These Things”.
