SIH’s Think On These Things: Matt 5:5
(Mat 5:5) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
To be “meek” involves several ideas… patience, self-control, and gentleness make up the basic ideas behind being meek. Meek NEVER implies weakness or inability. It always involves being competent in the keeping our strengths, abilities and authority under the control of the Holy Ghost… always channeling them in the right direction and using them for the honor and glory of God. Our Lord set the perfect example of meekness for us by being “meek and lowly of heart” (Matt 11:29)
For those who have been graced with meekness what is the blessing awaiting them? It is the promise of inheriting the New Heavens and Earth throughout eternity. This inheritance allows us to live on the sinless, newly created Earth. However it doesn’t stop there. It also involves our exercising dominion over the New Earth. Much like the dominion over God’s creation that Adam and Eve enjoyed before the fall in the garden of Eden.
This is one mark of a person who has been blessed by God and is living a happy life in Him. Does today’s verse describe your life? Do you have lasting peace and happiness in Christ? If not, trust in Christ and follow Him. He makes us a promise “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
May the Lord bless each one of us as we “Think On These Things”.

The best definition I have heard of meekness is that of a broken-in wild horse. He still has the enormous strength and power he had before being broken in, but it is now under control - sometimes so much under control that it can be trusted to carry a child.
ReplyDeleteMeekness is a quality that is truly shown in Christ and should be evident in His followers.

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate learning more about meekness, that it is not what the world views it as, not the same as weakness. I read another blog that shared it was to endure injustice without resentment or bitterness. :) God bless you, Rob , as you help us think on Him and His word today!
ReplyDeleteI can attest to the reality that God has been working with me to help me grow in meekness. I am learning more and more what a true blessing meekness is!
ReplyDeleteAngela,
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good definition... I do believe it is the best I have ever heard as well. Thank you for sharing the blessing!
Debbie,That is a very interesting definition for meekness. I really appreciate it. I believe enduring patiently mistreatment by others is a great illustration of meekness in action. How difficult it is for all of us to endure mistreatment and trust the Lord to take care of it for us! Thanks for a great comment Debbie!
ReplyDeleteAMEN! I am happy for you, and thankful the Lord is working in your life... what a blessing it is!
