He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous (Prov 2:7)

Responsible Living: Have A Consistent Respect For Wise Guidance: Prov 6:20-22
20) My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21) Bind them continually upon thine heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.
22) When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

INTRODUCTION:
Solomon nows explains the need for us to always carry with us a respect for the Word and a desire to consistently apply it’s teachings to our lives.

EXPOSITION:
20) My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Solomon’s wise advice includes the proper treatment of the teachings of our parents :
1. guard and maintain the responsibilities given to him by his father
2. do not put off the standard of behavior that is given to him by his mother

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.   (Ephesians 6:1)

21) Bind them continually upon thine heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.
3.  tie them tightly to our heart, following them with all our desires.
4.  hang them around our neck, they will beautify our life much like a necklace of gold

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:  And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.   And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.   (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

22) When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
5.  in our walk of life, they will be our guide
6.  in our resting moments, they will be a hedge about us
7.  in our beginning of the day, they will be our companion and counselor

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept [me from] the paths of the destroyer.   (Psalms 17:4)

SUMMARY:

In this section of Scripture, Solomon has explained the need for us to listen to, and follow, the wise counsel that we have received from others who love us and are concerned with our welfare.  This includes the wise counsel we have received form our parents, and especially the wise teachings of our Heavenly Father, the One who loves us with an eternal love and ALWAYS works for our benefit.

By God’s grace, let us all study these proverbs diligently, giving them the value that they deserve.

May the Lord bless us as we receive this sound wisdom and then “Think On These Things”.
