“SIH’s Think On These Things: Rom 8:27b”

For our devotion series, we are looking at “Prayer and the Will of God”.  In our text, we find some very precious promises given to us by our Lord …. Rom 8:27  knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.

To understand this text, we have to remember what we have learned in the previous verse.  If we recall, we saw that when we are unable to verbalize our request to the Lord… “the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered

Now, we are told that “(God) knoweth what is the mind of the Spiritin other words, our Heavenly Father hears and completely understands what the Spirit is saying.  We can rest assured the Spirit’s message to the Father gets through “loud and clear”!   What a blessing it is to know we have an intercessor with a perfect message that is always received, understood and accepted by God the Father.

But our text takes all of this a step farther… “because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.  This explains why the Father always is receptive to the intercession made by the Spirit. It is because the Spirit’s requests are always made in alignment with the Father’s will.  The Spirit, being God, knows what the divine will for any particular circumstance is.  He molds His intercession into conformity to that perfect will of God.

What a wonderful promise of God!... When we are faced with situations that expose our weaknesses and inabilities; and we are so devastated by our circumstances we do not know what to say to our God it is then that we can know that ….

1. The indwelling Spirit perfectly intervenes on our behalf and communicates with unspeakable words.

2. The Father understands our situation, weaknesses, feelings, concerns and desires.

3. The Father will receive, understand and accept the Spirit’s intercession on our behalf.

4. The Father will fulfill the request made by the Spirit.  This answer will be the best solution for us and bring Him the most glory.

Is the burden of our sinful flesh that we are bearing becoming intolerable for us?  Does it seem as if our inabilities have overwhelmed us?  Are we at a loss for words as we attempt to come before the Lord in prayer over this matter?  Don’t give up hope.  Know that the Spirit is intervening on our behalf and God’s will is being done in the situation you are facing.  We will work out everything for your best!

To God be the glory great things He hath done!

May the Lord bless us as we “Think On These Things”.
